Two center–quarterback pairs. The receivers stand out wide, the next ones queued behind them.
How to run it
The quarterback works on the snap under center, 3-step and 5-step drops and throwing in rhythm with the receiver's break. The receivers work on running the route at the right depth so the ball arrives as they break.
Set-up
Two center–quarterback pairs next to each other. One wide receiver on the left and one on the right, with the next receiver queued behind. Discs mark the drop depth and the break point of the out.
Instructions
- 1Two center–quarterback pairs. The receivers stand out wide, the next ones queued behind them.
- 2Snap to quarterback 1 under center. Hands ready, ball in to the belly.
- 33-step drop (the first step long), the receiver runs a 5-yard stem.
- 4The quarterback plants on the third step and throws as the receiver turns back on his hitch.
- 5The receiver turns up the field. Second pair: snap to quarterback 2.
- 65-step drop while the right receiver runs a 10-yard stem. The left receiver brings the ball back to center 1.
- 7The ball leaves the hand before the receiver breaks. He breaks out and catches it at the sideline. The next left receiver steps up.
- 8The receiver turns up the sideline. Quarterback 2 goes back to his center.
- 9The ball goes back to center 2 and the next receivers are on the line. The quarterbacks switch sides next round.
Coaching points
- The drop is a rhythm: "one-two-three-throw" or "one-two-three-four-five-throw". No extra steps.
- Throw on the receiver's break – the ball should be in the air as he turns or breaks.
- The receiver runs the exact depth. A yard short and the timing is off.
- The center keeps his head up and takes a step forward after the snap.
Variations
Easier
The quarterback starts in shotgun and only does 3-step drops. The receivers run at half speed.
Harder
Add a cornerback playing press or off. The quarterback throws to the other side if the route is covered.
