Players queue at the start cone with a ball each. Goalkeeper in goal.
How to run it
Dribble through poles, set up the shot and finish on goal. The drill combines close control with a finish and gives the goalkeeper plenty of saves.
Set-up
Seven poles in a row 2 m apart, about 20 m from goal. A start cone in front of the poles. Players queue with a ball each. Goalkeeper in goal.
Instructions
- 1Players queue at the start cone with a ball each. Goalkeeper in goal.
- 2The first one dribbles a slalom between the poles with small touches. The next steps up to the start cone.
- 3After the last pole: take the ball diagonally towards goal and set up the finish.
- 4Shot into the far corner. The goalkeeper saves or concedes.
- 5The next player starts the slalom. The shooter runs back outside the lane and fetches the ball.
- 6The second player goes right after the poles and sets up the shot.
- 7Finish with the left or right foot – the goalkeeper has reset.
- 8The third player starts. Those who have shot return to the queue.
- 9Take the ball towards the left side and set up.
- 10Finish. Keep going until everyone has shot three times from both sides.
Coaching points
- Ball close to the foot between the poles – use both the inside and the outside.
- Look up after the last pole so you see the goalkeeper before you shoot.
- Placement beats power: aim low into the corner.
- Start the next player when the first is halfway so there is no queue.
Variations
Easier
Fewer poles further apart. Finish without a goalkeeper or into a big open goal.
Harder
Time the slalom, finish with the weaker foot or add a defender chasing from behind.
Equipment
- 7 × Pole
