Two central players in the box, one player on each side. Two balls.

How to run it

Two central players receive from one side with an open body and play on to the opposite side. Four players around the box pass in. Trains the key midfield movement: check your shoulder, open your body and play forward.

  2. 2A pass from the left to the central player coming to meet it.
  3. 3Half-turn: the first touch across towards the right. The other central player receives from the top.

Coaching points

  • Check your shoulder before the ball arrives – what's behind you?
  • Receive with the back foot so your body is open to the next pass.
  • The first touch should take the ball past the imagined defender.
  • The passes in must arrive on the right foot at the right pace.

Variations

Easier

More touches and just one ball in play.

Harder

A passive defender in the middle, or max two touches.
