Face-off on the right dot, five against five.

How to run it

Two face-offs in the attacking zone: the first is won cleanly back to the D, D-to-D and a shot through the screen with the rebound in. The second is lost, but the D pinches and wins the puck back on the boards. Trains face-offs, everyone knowing their job and quick finishes after the draw.

Coaching points

  • Centre: watch the linesman's hand and be quick with the stick.
  • Everyone knows the play before the draw – decide it in advance.
  • Wingers: win loose pucks after the draw and tie up the opposing centre.
  • Lost draw: pressure at once before they get organised.

Variations

Easier

The draw is always won and nobody blocks the shot.

Harder

The centre chooses the play himself and the opponents compete for real.
