Three shooters with a puck each: left, slot and right. One player with a puck behind the net. The goalie in the middle of the crease.
How to run it
The goalie sets up on three shooters in turn and then has to come off the post when the puck is passed out from behind the net. Trains positioning, shuffles, T-pushes and staying square to the puck.
Set-up
One zone. Three shooters with pucks: left wing, slot and right wing, about 7–9 m from the net. One player with a puck behind the net. Goalie in net. Shooters change spots after each round.
Instructions
- 1Three shooters with a puck each: left, slot and right. One player with a puck behind the net. The goalie in the middle of the crease.
- 2The goalie moves towards the left shooter and sets on the line between the puck and the middle of the net.
- 3Shot from the left – saved with the body straight on.
- 4Shuffle back to the middle for the slot shooter.
- 5Shot from the slot – saved out to the side.
- 6T-push across to the right shooter and stop square to the puck.
- 7Shot from the right – goal in the far corner. Was the goalie set in time?
- 8The player behind the net comes out beside it, the goalie seals the post. The slot shooter gets open.
- 9Pass out to the slot – the goalie pushes off the post and sets on the new shooter.
- 10Shot – save.
- 11The shooters change spots and the goalie returns to the top of the crease. Next round.
Coaching points
- Be set before the shot: the movement should be finished when the shooter lifts the stick.
- Square to the puck – shoulders and chest face the puck, not the shooter's body.
- Shuffle for short moves, T-push for longer ones; stop with the lead skate.
- Track the puck with your eyes all the way into your body.
Variations
Easier
Shooters go in a set order at an easy pace and shoot at the body.
Harder
The coach names the shooter only once the goalie is set, or live rebounds.
