1v1 from the Corner

Floorball15 min5 players12 steps
AttackingDefendingSpeedIntermediate

The attacker waits at the centre line. The defender stands in the corner with the ball.

How to run it

The defender passes out from the corner and closes down. The attacker has to get past with a fake and finish. If the defender wins the ball he counters at a goal by the centre line. Trains both attacking 1v1 and defending in front of goal, with a goalie.

Set-up

Attackers queue at the centre line on one side. Defenders stand in the corner next to the goal with the balls. Goalie in goal. A counter goal at the centre line with its mouth facing the attacking zone.

Instructions

  1. 1The attacker waits at the centre line. The defender stands in the corner with the ball.
  2. 2The defender passes out to the attacker and goes straight out to close down.
  3. 3The attacker receives at speed and skates straight at the defender. The defender gets between the attacker and the goal.
  4. 4Fake outside: the attacker pretends to go along the board and the defender follows.
  5. 5The attacker cuts in towards the middle, past the defender and into the slot.
  6. 6Shot before the defender can recover.
  7. 7Swap: the attacker goes to the defenders' corner and the defender to the attackers' queue. The next pair is ready.
  8. 8A new pass out from the corner and the defender closes down.
  9. 9The attacker skates at the defender.
  10. 10The attacker cuts in too early. The defender keeps the inside line and is well positioned.
  11. 11The defender pokes the ball away with the stick – no slashing or lifting the stick – wins it and turns away from the goal.
  12. 12Counter: a shot into the goal by the centre line – a point to the defence.

Coaching points

  • Attacker: arrive with speed and make the fake 2–3 m from the defender.
  • Defender: get out quickly, slow down for the last metres and keep the inside line – show the attacker to the board.
  • The defender shouldn't slash at the ball. Be patient and take the ball with your stick when it gets away from the attacker – lifting or hitting the opponent's stick is a foul in floorball.
  • Keep score: a goal is a point to the attacker, a goal on the counter is a point to the defender.

Variations

Easier

The defender starts further away or may only skate at a calm pace.

Harder

The attacker must finish within five seconds, and the attacker may try to stop the counter.

Equipment

  • 1 × Goal
