Goalie – Angles and Play Behind the Goal

Floorball15 min5 players11 steps
GoalkeepingShooting & finishingIntermediate

The shooters stand left, middle and right with a ball each. One player stands behind the goal with a ball.

How to run it

The goalie practises getting set for shots from three angles and following the ball behind the goal and out into the slot. The shooters get plenty of finishes.

Set-up

Three shooters with a ball at discs on the left, in the middle and on the right about 7 m from goal. One player with a ball behind the goal. Goalie in goal.

Instructions

  1. 1The shooters stand left, middle and right with a ball each. One player stands behind the goal with a ball.
  2. 2The goalie side-steps and sets up on the line between the ball on the left and the middle of the goal.
  3. 3Shot from the left.
  4. 4Up into the ready stance and move towards the middle. The goalie sets up square to the middle shooter.
  5. 5Shot from the middle.
  6. 6Move to the right and get the angle right again.
  7. 7Shot from the right.
  8. 8The player behind the goal skates round to the left post. The goalie follows to the post and the middle shooter gets free in the slot.
  9. 9Pass out into the slot. The goalie moves out quickly to the new angle.
  10. 10One-timer from the slot.
  11. 11The shooters change station: left to middle, middle to right, right behind the goal and behind the goal to the left.

Coaching points

  • Set up on the line between the ball and the middle of the goal – check the posts with a quick glance.
  • Be still and in the ready stance when the shot comes. Move before it, not during it.
  • Follow the ball behind the goal with your head and seal the post.
  • The shooters wait until the goalie is ready – quality before tempo.

Variations

Easier

Shots from further out and less power. No pass from behind the goal.

Harder

The shooters shoot as soon as the goalie is in place, or the player behind the goal passes to any shooter.
