One player at each corner, the fifth stands behind the first corner. The ball starts at the first corner.
How to run it
Five players and four corners: pass to the next corner and follow your pass. Players practise passing and receiving on both forehand and backhand, and moving after the pass.
Set-up
A square of about 7 × 7 m with discs in the corners. One player at each corner and the fifth behind the first corner. One ball.
Instructions
- 1One player at each corner, the fifth stands behind the first corner. The ball starts at the first corner.
- 2First pass to the next corner. The passer follows the ball and the player behind steps into the corner.
- 3The receiver controls and passes on to the next corner. The passer runs after the pass.
- 4Keep going round: receive with a soft blade, turn and pass.
- 5The passer runs outside the passing line so as not to get in the way of the ball.
- 6The second lap starts. Everyone has now changed corner at least once.
- 7Raise the tempo: receive and pass in one movement.
- 8Keep going round and have the stick on the floor, ready, before the ball arrives.
- 9Last pass in this direction.
- 10The coach calls "switch"! The ball is passed back the other way. The player who was on the way queues behind the corner instead.
- 11Passes in the new direction. The player behind the corner steps in when it is free.
- 12Keep going the new way – now the passes come on the other side of the blade.
Coaching points
- Pass to the receiver's blade, not their body. Follow through with the blade towards the target.
- Receive with a soft blade that "gives" as the ball arrives.
- Stick on the floor and eyes on the passer before the ball comes.
- Change direction often so both forehand and backhand passes are practised.
Variations
Easier
A bigger square, the ball may be stopped completely before the pass, and a calmer tempo.
Harder
One-touch passes only, two balls at once (starting in opposite corners) or backhand passes only.
Equipment
