Two queues, one at each lane. The cones run diagonally in towards the slot. Goalie in goal and spare balls by the boards.

How to run it

Two lanes of cones run from the wings in towards the slot. Players dribble the slalom and shoot, alternating from right and left. After the shot the player changes sides so both directions are practised.

Set-up

Four cones per side running diagonally in towards goal from each wing. A queue at each lane with a ball each and a few spare balls by the board. Goalie in goal.

Instructions

  1. 1Two queues, one at each lane. The cones run diagonally in towards the slot. Goalie in goal and spare balls by the boards.
  2. 2The first player on the right dribbles the slalom in towards goal. The next in the queue steps up to the start.
  3. 3Shot from the slot. The goalie sets up square to the ball.
  4. 4The left side starts its slalom. The shooter skates back through the middle.
  5. 5Shot from the left. The first shooter picks up a new ball by the left board.
  6. 6The right side again. The first player joins the left queue – everyone changes sides after the shot.
  7. 7Shot from the right. The player from the left picks up a new ball by the right board.
  8. 8Slalom on the left. The players changing sides step up to the start on their new side.
  9. 9Shot from the left. The player who shot from the right goes back to the queue.
  10. 10The next round starts on the right – now the player is on the opposite side from last time.

Coaching points

  • Ball close to the stick in the slalom and eyes up towards the goal at the last cone.
  • Shoot in stride – don't stop before the shot.
  • Pick your corner early and use a wrist shot with a good follow-through.
  • Start the next player as the previous one shoots to get lots of repetitions.

Variations

Easier

Fewer cones with more space between them. Shoot at an empty goal.

Harder

Cones closer together, backhand shots only, or a defender who interferes at the last cone.

Equipment

  • 8 × Cone
