Players queue behind the poles, each with a ball. The goalkeeper is in goal.
How to run it
Bounce through a slalom, take three steps up to the 9 m line and finish with a jump shot. Trains bouncing with both hands, the step rhythm and shooting against a goalkeeper.
Set-up
Five poles in a row about 2 m apart, roughly 14–20 m from goal. Players queue behind the first pole, each with a ball. Goalkeeper in goal.
Instructions
- 1Players queue behind the poles, each with a ball. The goalkeeper is in goal.
- 2The first player bounces through the poles. The next in the queue steps up.
- 3Three steps up to the 9 m line with the ball high behind the head. The goalkeeper sets.
- 4Jump shot – take off from the left foot (right-handers) and shoot into the far corner.
- 5The next player bounces through the slalom. The shooter runs back on the outside of the lane.
- 6Three steps and the arm up – look at the goalkeeper before you shoot.
- 7Jump shot, this time into the other corner.
- 8The third player goes. The first one rejoins the queue and takes a new ball.
- 9Three steps up to 9 m. The goalkeeper moves towards the shooter.
- 10Jump shot. Collect the balls after the series and start the next round.
Coaching points
- Bounce with the right hand on one side of the pole and the left on the other.
- Keep the ball well in front in the bounce and look up between the poles.
- Three steps: right–left–up (right-handers). Say the rhythm out loud at first.
- Get the ball up behind the head by the second step so the shot comes quickly.
- Pick your corner before you jump, but watch the goalkeeper.
Variations
Easier
Fewer poles further apart. Shoot from a standing position or with a simple step shot.
Harder
Time the slalom, or put a passive defender at 9 m to shoot over.
