The blue goalkeeper has the ball. Both teams are spread out in their own half.
How to run it
Small-sided match play: three court players and a goalkeeper per team on a smaller court. Lots of touches and shots, and the children learn to play freely and restart quickly after a goal.
Set-up
A court of about 18 × 14 m across the middle. Two goals (smaller if you have them) with a goal zone of about 4 m marked with discs. Three court players and a goalkeeper per team. Only the goalkeeper may enter the zone.
Instructions
- 1The blue goalkeeper has the ball. Both teams are spread out in their own half.
- 2The goalkeeper throws out to the player moving wide. The reds drop back.
- 3The player bounces forward with the ball towards the red goal.
- 4Pass to the team-mate in the middle who has moved free.
- 5On to the free player on the wing.
- 6Shot from outside the zone – goal!
- 7The red goalkeeper takes the ball at once and the reds restart quickly. The blues run back.
- 8The goalkeeper throws out to the player on the wing.
- 9Pass inside where a red player is free.
- 10The red player bounces towards the zone.
- 11Shot at the blue goal – then the blues restart with the ball.
Coaching points
- Everyone should be available – move to where there is no opponent.
- After a goal the goalkeeper restarts fast. The team that runs back quickest gets time to organise.
- Throw to a team-mate who is moving, not to someone standing still.
- Rotate the goalkeeper after every goal or every minute so everyone has a go.
- Count passes – a bonus point for a goal after at least three passes.
Variations
Easier
Play 4v2 or without goalkeepers. Allow the ball to be carried a few steps without bouncing.
Harder
Everyone on the team must touch the ball before a shot. Or: goals only count from a jump shot.
Equipment
- 2 × Goal
- 14 × Markers
